I think we've been here before...

Departing NYC, we took the train to Newark Airport where we had left the car. We backtracked to Union City NJ where the original Lincoln Highway travelers would have exited the ferry across the Hudson River.  Not far from there we spotted our first LH sign.

In Jersey City NJ we saw our first Lincoln statue.

Early in NJ, the LH is not well marked. But now that we've made a little progress, it appears that we will be following state routes primarily. So maybe we will avoid the "we've been here before" syndrome and not have quite so many second chances to go around the block to catch that turn again.  :-)
