Made it to Omaha!
The highlight of the day was definitely our quick stop to see Karla and Margie in Savannah, Missouri. It should have been a longer visit but I was slow getting my butt in gear this morning what with sleeping in unexpectedly, taking a long time to find a new audiobook to listen to during exercise, normal 3.5-mile walk and Friday core exercises. I did cut the exercises short by 6 minutes, a serious hardship. (Everyone who has heard me whine about these exercises will know that is a lie.) We like to complete our travel during day light so couldn't linger too long.
Since we were still beating our path to Omaha, the other highlights of today were stops along the way for food.
We found La Galette Berrichonne and had delightfully delicious almond croissants. This is a french restaurant in the middle of nowhere -- ok, it is is Fordland, Missouri, but is technically in the middle of nowhere. They've cut back on their offerings while the chef/owner is having some health problems, but they still have their daily pastries and a once a week 7-course dining experience. That was early in the day.
For late lunch, we stopped at Smith's Restaurant and had the best half pork tenderloin sandwich I've ever put in my mouth! Incredible!
Late supper was our first introduction to a local favorite called a runza. Perhaps better examples can be found, but we were favorably impressed with the specimens from the fast-food chain Runza.
We dined beneath the Eiffel Tower (below).
Just to be safe, we strapped on our tinfoil hats for protection.
Tomorrow we do something other than eat.
